Turkey in a Pit

Thanksgiving 2010. A Fuller Thanksgiving. We put strips of salt pork, butter, and seasoning all over the turkey then triple wrapped the turkey with aluminum foil. Added bailing wire for easy handling. Popped into the firepit and covered with coals. Then we covered with damp burlap for extra protection then dirt on top to trap in all that heat and create an oven. Roasted for 4 hours then remove salt park, and use real oven to bronze. gObBle GOble!!
